Knife and Handgun Seminar at Sheffield Goju Ryu.
WR Mann from www.RealFighting.com came to our club to show our students some knife defence.
Everybody really enjoyed themselves and we thank WR Mann for taking the time out of his busy schedule to come to Sheffield to train with us. |
Thanks to all that contrivuted and attended the seminar that we helf for the Charity PACT, which helps the families of children with Tumours and Leukaemia.
We were invited to a Karate Club in Sheffield to run a seminar on Self Protection.
Thanks to all who attended and thanks to Sensei Dave Bettles for inviting us..
An Edged Weapon can be various different objects, most
people just assume they are knives.
Not only are there knives, but also, broken glass and
bottle's, torn drink cans, screwdrivers, razor blades taped
to credit cards and even a credit card that has been ran
along a wall, will cut you.
The list is endless, however the most common edged weapon you
would probably be faced with - is a knife.
Unfortunately in todays street culture, edged weapon assaults
are becoming more and more common.
The most common edged weapon attacks are with knives to
threaten the individuals, so that they become frightened and
hand over their personal possessions.
What would you do if an attacker put a knife to your throat
and told you to do something?
The real answer is, that if you have never faced this type of
attack, you do not know what you would do. Realistic training
for this type of situation can only enhance your survival.
In this seminar we will looked at the problems associated
with weapon threats.
You will learned how to assess the threat, de-escalate the
situation and if all else has failed, perform defensive
techniques that will allow you to overcome any would be
attacker.
The seminar started by dealing with knife threats then
we followed this by teaching how to use common objects as
defensive tools.
In every street attack the victim will have at hand various
common objects that can be used to defeat and overcome an
attacker.
These common objects fall into various categories, such as
sharp implements (pens etc), stick like objects (umbrellas),
heavy objects (stones/ashtrays), small objects (keys/coins),
shield like objects (chairs/bags), whip like objects
(belts/chains) and liquids.
In this seminar you learn how to use these items to defend
yourself.

4hr Kapapsheffield Induction Seminar - Abbeydale Park
Racket & Fitness Club, Sheffield.
This seminar was open to everyone from any Martial Art
background or no Martial Art background at all.
Yet again our Induction Seminar proved to be popular, we had
people travel from as far a field as Newcastle, Leeds,
Birmingham and London.
Thanks to all of you who attended and hopefully you received
an all round overview of the Kapap System and came away
feeling confident and eager to learn more.
Most people would expect our British Army to receive some
sort of Hand to Hand training - this is not always true!!
Which led members of the HM reserve forces to contact us for
training.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am a member of HM reserve forces and I and several of my
colleagues will be mobilised to deploy on peace keeping
operations to Afghanistan in 2-3 months time.
We have previously been deployed to Iraq, where we found we
had a massive skills gap in the training we were given.
Due to time and resource constraints, we found that we were
trained to discourage and de-escalate what was termed minor
aggravation and in the application and use of lethal force
with firearms.
We had a number of small incidents where we were physically
attacked or had to arrest individuals which we were able to
deal with through are current level of knowledge and sheer
numbers.
However, we also experienced incidents where relatively small
situations rapidly expanded into small scale public order
events in which members of our group were seriously at risk,
mainly from knives, sticks or being dragged into a crowd.
Although we were able to sort these situations out and rescue
colleagues, by literally piling in, the only method we had to
extract ourselves safely from the situation was to threaten or
use lethal force.
With the combination of the legality of having to use lethal
force and the current disciplinary action being taken against
other members of HM forces and the risk of harm to ourselves,
we have collectively challenged our superiors to give us some
form of arrest and restraint training.
Although they have been sympathetic they simply can’t get the
instructors or find places on courses to allow us to protect
ourselves and avoid having to unnecessarily cause harm to
anyone, hence I have been looking at the private sector.

4hr Kapap Sheffield Induction Seminar.
Kapapsheffield were pleased to have held - the first ever Jim Wagner Reality Based Self Defence Seminar in Sheffield, in conjunction with www.jimwagnertraining-ireland.com.
Once a month at our Kickboxing Club we teach our kids the
basics of Kapap - this month it was Knife Defence.
The kids had a great time and know that knifes are not toys
but weapons that can harm.
Learning self defence at an early age builds confidence, but
may well also one day save their lives.
Providing children with options and practical skills to
RECOGNIZE, AVOID, and if necessary, ESCAPE violence and abuse.
Through self protection training, children become empowered,
learning to replace the fear, confusion and panic of dangerous
situations with confidence, personal safety skills and higher
self-esteem.
Self Defence, Protection/Martial Arts can be a fine addition
to a child's personal safety background, but Kapap Sheffield's
curriculum is designed to establish a basic foundation of
overall safety in a child's life.
We teach them how to defend themselves from all common
attack scenarios: grabs, holds and strikes.
We hope that this additional monthly training will instil in
our students, self confidence, physical fitness, discipline,
respect and mental focus.
Kapap is not only a martial art - Kapap is a self-esteem
building program with both realistic and practical skills
useful in today's world.
Kapap is intended to provide a foundation of safety education
for a child to build on for the rest of their life.
